Family Owned and Operated Business

John and Winnie Murdock first acquired Shining Sails Bed & Breakfast in 1997 and later expanded their enterprise by adding the Inn at Fish & Maine. They have played a vital role in the community for many years, with John serving as the town constable and Winnie as an EMT, as well as on the school board and acting as town assessors. John has been lobstering in Monhegan waters since 1978, and the couple has deep roots in the area, often inviting guests to gather around the woodstove to share enthralling stories about the island. As they near retirement, their son Kyle Murdock and his partner Miranda are stepping in to manage and operate the business.

Manager's Receptions

As the season begins, we invite guests of Shining Sails and the Inn at Fish & Maine to join us weekly for Manager's Receptions in the common room. Enjoy handcrafted charcuterie boards and wine for guests of legal drinking age while mingling with our family and staff, and learning more about enchanting Monhegan Island.

Afternoon Tea

Hosted bi-weekly in the common room or, weather permitting, on the garden deck, afternoon tea is open to all who register in advance at the front desk for this delightful experience. Indulge in freshly baked treats like scones with clotted cream and jam, as well as cucumber sandwiches, paired with a selection of fine teas, all while enjoying engaging conversations.
